I am just working on .204 Ruger loads and I need some help working up some loads. Custom rifles such as the Cooper Model 21 can shoot 1/4" 5 shot groups at 100 yards. But, am having trouble getting consistent results with my Ruger #1 .204 and now my recently acquired .204 … Even though they both have the same overall length and rim diameter, the .204 Ruger has a slightly greater case capacity than the .223 Remington due to the slightly longer case length (1.85″ vs 1.76″) and steeper shoulder angle (30 degrees vs 23 degrees) of the .204 Ruger. I really like the Savage 204--it is one of the most accurate rifles I've owned.
For the second trip, I ended up shooting 301 rounds, all from the .204 Ruger rifle. For many years I shot 220 Swifts but bought the 204 just to try something new. Keep in mind that hand loaders usually achieve velocities around 4100 feet with the use of a 32-grain bullet. ... 204 Ruger TIKKA T3 Mind bending accuracy! In short the 204 is capable of some excellent accuracy. As an owner of three rifles chambered in .204 Ruger, including a rare discontinued Kevlar Varmint, I say "go for it".
I've found every factory bolt action 204 Ruger to be very accurate … Technically, the .204 Ruger was created jointly by Ruger and Hornady in 2004. It can also be a real turd if you haven't gotten all the planets aligned just right or the barrel just says no. Hornady claims that their factory loads for the .204 Ruger is very accurate… I shoot 100 yd dime size groups with my 17HMR, .223, and .22 Hornet (after some work on the Hornet). The .204 is an excellent varmint round. YMMV As I have said, paralysis on my right side means I cannot hold up a rifle to shoot off hand. It is very capable of shooting under half inch at 100 yards And under 1 inch at 200 yards. At 4000fps, it gets there quicker than a .223. I found the .204 Ruger to be flatter-shooting than .223, and it also seemed to buck the wind better, even with the light 32gr bullets. Hornady and Ruger based their 5mm hotrod on the .222 Remington Magnum case by simply necking it down to .204 inches, moving the shoulder forward and increasing its angle to 30 degrees.

Both of these rifles are capanble of 3/4" or better 100 yard 5 shot groups. Theres been matches where I wish I had left the ppc at home and brought my Savage. I fired a total of 300 rounds, 200 from the .204 Ruger and 100 from the .223. It is fast, flat shooting and appears to be deadly on Coyotes and Fox. Other less expensive rifles are the Savage Model 12 Varmint and the Ruger M77 Varmint. The scope is a Nikon 4.5-18X40mm Side FocusProstaff 5: Here it is sitting on my Cadwell Deadshot Fieldpod. I would like to get some of your opinions on your load data as well.
