This is not only a match made in heaven for your 300 Blackout rounds, but they will also do very well with a variety of rounds that are mostly designed for varmint hunting. The '.300 Whisper', a CIP standard, is one of many cartridges designed to shoot heavier bullets (200–250 grains) at subsonic velocities..300 Whisper is also known as .300 Fireball or .300-221.The 300 AAC Blackout is the most successful 30 caliber cartridge with these design parameters and been widely accepted whereas the .300 Whisper has fallen into disuse. Jones of SSK Industries began developing a wildcat cartridge (at the request of US military Special Forces) that became known as the .300 Whisper. So if you're a hunter looking for a powder to load rounds appropriate for this kind of hunting, the …

Well, there is not much extensive data for reloading either, but Sierra Bullets is trying to help change that. In either loading, the .300 Blackout and Whisper do not use much powder per shot, so if you reload, powder costs are about as small as they get. (The ballistic performance similarity.) I had never heard of this caliber until a shooting club buddy of mine in Paraguay begged me to bring him a 10 inch SSK 300 whisper barrel for his Thompson Contender back in 2000.

It was based on the .221 Remington Fireball case necked to .30 caliber and had an overall length of 2.260 inches - same as the .223 Remington - allowing it to function in the AR-15 rifles and magazines.

If I had it to do all over again, I would have only bought 1 in 8 twist barrels as mine seem to shoot super sonic as well as the slower 1 in 10 twist barrels.

Read All NOTES below. Small game loads fall within almost the same velocity range as do the gallery loads and that’s another subject. Instead, I’ll try and look at the true “whisper” loads (sub sonic) and see how silent and accurate they really are.

There’s no real good load data for 300 BLK yet for the bullet weights I’m using, so since 300 Whisper is a lower pressure load one assumes it to be safe to use interchangeably. Jones’ criteria for the .300 Whisper cartridge were demand-ing to say the least. I won’t address the gallery load, as normally, the velocity is a bit higher on these. Post by TNFrank61 » Sat Jan 17, 2015 3:00 pm I already have 4 loading manuals, 5 if you count the Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook and if I were to buy another it'd probably be the Nosler since it's one that I don't have. Re: Hornady 8th Edition Manual, 300 Whisper data for 300 Blackout?

So, being the cautious guy I am, I started my load at 11 grains of H110. He took a small cartridge –the .221 Fireball –blew it out to .30 caliber and, using heavy bullets, turned it into an accurate round that did some neat stuff. We’ll be using a load of 28.4 grains of Winchester’s 748 powder. Brass is readily available, so tediously reforming .223/5.56 cases is no longer necessary. This is offset by the greater cost of the bullets, as a 240-grain .308 jacketed bullet is going to cost you more than a 230-grain lead bullet for a .45 ACP. 300 WHISPER.
