The reception people were unconcerned about our dilemma. Plus, committed to providing guest satisfaction and aware that the inconveniences you have encountered affected the quality of your stay, we did offer you an upgrade to one of our suites on your second day, 2 complementary beverages and the breakfast during your stay. We are also delighted that you have enjoyed the charm, the furnishing and the comfort of your room and that you were pleased with the quietness of the hotel's location inside the Medieval Fortress of Carcassonne. I stayed three nights but was supplied with precisely two tea bags and two mini milk pots ! They went beyond what one would expect. Restaurants all around were good, avoid Camet Roger behind hotel. We stayed in the ramparts of this hotel which is divided into separate buildings. I am very happy to read that the service provided by our staff was up to your expectations. It also has a lovely garden which was charming and a delightful oasis on a warm day for guests to sit and linger in.Courtesy or Ryanair, we arrived at the airport with no problem. We drove and needed parking which was a secure area just outside the walls. Emerging from the terminal there wasn't a taxi in sight. The hotel porter took us to meet our taxi on our way home and stayed with us until the taxi arrived; the porter was friendly and chatty, telling us about winters in the nearby mountains/hills. 20 euros parking fee. Close to the airport (a bus shuttle runs 5 € pp or 25€ in a taxi ) with a good mixture of history, walking tours, shops both tourist and high end jewellery , and a good range of restaurants. We wanted to stay here as we didn't want to have to walk to a different building every morning for breakfast, or back after a drink in the bar at night. We really enjoyed reading your lovely comments about how pleased you were during your stay. It was great to see a jug and tea bags! They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Could have easily spent more time here! That said, the place seemed a bit overpriced for what you got, and breakfast was not included.Just returned from a three night stay at this hotel. We were in a building that did not have a 24 hour receptionist which meant that we needed to walk a few blocks to the main reception desk to check out in the morning and then walk back to our building to get our bags, etc. One thing you have to remember when you stay at a castle, you leave luxury behind. The management was unresponsive and would not move me. Hotel very comfortable with delightful outdoor breakfast area.Booked hotel in advance - were picked up outside the wall - had a long walk in the afternoon with thousands of other tourists - we were there in a Sunday afternoon - travel schedule obliged. We had a few concerns about possible noise later in the day and because some of the local children were kicking a ball at the window! As others have said, it's in an excellent position for exploring Carcassonne's old city or the new town. We were given room 40, and Jerome knew exactly which room that was and whisked our bags there before we could even breathe. You really must video this with your iPhone as it is a total trip out!! She replied that there was nowhere in the medieval area (where we were) but that if I took a taxi into the new part of the city to the post office, they would provide this service. Bar service was slow which is my only criticism. On the plus side, the hotel is superbly located within the city walls, the staff are excellent, the breakfast was superb (for France) and the room was very comfortable On the negative side, housekeeping was very slapdash; bins not emptied/ glasses not taken away/ laundry bags not replaced. The wifi worked well in our room. For parking you have the choice between Private ($$) or public ( free?). free complimentary bottle of water each day was handy. It turned out to be quite noisy (especially in the AM as deliveries and such poured in), and a very - very small room. Although the cite is overrun with tourists during the day, by evening everything is quiet and mysterious. There were no staff in the annex. An excellent selection of restaurants within a few yards - we recommend the Adelaide just along from the annexe. We loved this hotel though I believe it was worth paying firstly for a room upgrade to get a little more space and a view over the city square, and secondly to have your car parked and get the hilarious ride through the tiny roads and corners of this ancient citadel! The check in brisk and satisfactory but don't expect to get your room earlier than about 4.30pm (we arrived on a Wednesday for 1 night stay). Don't bother and use this towards your evening meal. I needed extra pillows as I was pregnant and despite the hotel being booked out they searched until they found me some. We would have felt differently if it had been raining. It does not reflect our will to provide our guests the best housekeeping service. Eighty centimetre walls gave excellent insulation from weather and sound. Sometimes we had to wait several (10 to 20) minutes: Meanwhile one of three employees behind the reception were looking after the guests in front of the line, the other two were doing something else. Classy inside, most of the staff was cheerful and warm, great breakfast, super room. Very pleasant garden providing an oasis when hot and crowded in inner city. We were able to sit outside and enjoy a nice wine and good company. Breakfast however was very disappointing, I had read mixed reviews on here but decided to go with it as it was convenient. The staff were nice and helpful. Every staff person was extremely warm and professional and speaks perfect English. The employee attempted several times to unlock the solid door with the code. We travelled with a tour group (Riviera) and half the group was in the main hotel, half in the "Remparts" annexe a couple of hundred yards away, though that in itself was not a problem - everything is very near in the old city. We stayed 2 nights and at 10 pm on first night offered another room that might be available at 3pm following day. All of the staff we encountered were delightful. The breakfasts were appalling. Enjoyed the restaurants mentioned here, particularly Brassierre Donjon which was right next door to the hotel. Some noise from dustman etc early in the morning but it is worth having that for the location. Couldn't see any evidence of an extract fan. Our room opened on to a garden/court yard where they serve what looked like a nice breakfast buffet. We took a junior suite which can cater for a family of four, and a second with a queen bed. Rooms here are not compromised, they are equally comfortable and tended. Complaint response - Sorry hotel full ...tour groups took priority! Has 3 different locations within the walled town. The hotel is situated right near one of the main gates and the entire city is within easy strolling from the hotel door. Parking is a short walk away but there is a shuttle bus if you need it. The location is excellent, near all the restaurants (the hotel's is next door but we didn't use it) and bars as well as the castle and the basilica. There are also a number of good eating places within the main town and taxis are readily available. In the middle of the historical city and close to everything. I am delighted to hear that you enjoyed our service at the reception and the unique location of the hotel. Had twice to inform staff to refill scrambled eggs. I assume I was in the annexe because the main building was full. The building, the wooden beams and the atmosphere are really special. The weather was not that good so I would suggest visiting in May as opposed to April which is when we were in Carcassonne. But this hotel is right in the middle of the medieval city of Carcassone which is awesome! ”,“The property is centrally located in La Cité making it easy to walk to the shops and restaurants. We were so incensed by their lack of customer service that we went to the restaurant just 20 paces away. Confirmation, check-in and settling into room flawless after bags were unloaded by their tiiny shuttle vehicle. I also asked if anybody could give me some help about local vineyards or wineries and was told to go to tourist information at 10.00. It might be a lovely old building but it is outrageous to charge the same price for these rooms as those in the main building. It has many original features from the Middle Ages. Breakfast in the other building was pleasant, lots of choice with pastries and bread, hard boiled and scrambled egg, little spicy sausages, cold meats and plenty of cheese, even yoghurts, cereal and fresh fruit - we did not go hungry. The bed was extremely comfortable. It was magical and accommodations were absolutely perfect! The hotel is divided into three medieval buildings the Donjon which has the reception and breakfast room, the Ramparts and the Comte Roger. Then 5 minutes later it passed again on the opposite side. Rooms getting little old but good cleaned. The good sized room was good standard with everything you'd expect inclu en-suite, TV, coffee making, fridge, safe, etc. We slept with the windows open and where awakened by the 5:30 rattle of non-stop cleanup and delivery trucks. Very reasonably priced. So glad we decided to stay in La Cité rather than in the town as it is an amazing experience and the hotel location can't be beaten with the medieval city and lots of nice restaurants on your doorstep. The whole hotel was warm, inviting, comfortable with excellent friendly service. Staying inside the walled city was a good experience, particularly for our companions who had not visited Carcassonne before. Sincerely Adelaide PUJOL Quality Manager,Dear Guest, Thank you so much for taking the time to share your wonderful comment about your experience at The Hotel Donjon in Carcassonne. The room I stayed at was small but I expected that anyway. I felt safe which was important to me as I was travelling alone. A note on the door gave a new location that meant we had carry all our gear to another place. Only down side of the hotel, was they did not have any family rooms available, in fact I am not even sure they had any. An experience never to be forgotten. Scenic view of street and rooftops of medieval town and towers. The beds were comfortable. Recent changes to parking regulations in the castle means that cars are parked about 500 m from the hotel, in a secure area, but be prepared to pay the extra 20 euro fee if you do not want to use the public car park. However, the room was small and the bed left a very poor impression on my back. I would truly appreciate if you could give us a second chance, in which case I would be delighted to personally take care of your booking arrangements. There is an attendant, so you can leave the luggage, rather than waiting for the shuttle, and walk to the hotel – a nice way to start your visit to this fascinating place. The hotel is split into three town house, the main house and two others all close together. Be aware there is offsite parking with a valet which takes you to the lobby on a very jaunty ride. My wife and I highly recommend this hotel without qualification and would stay here again! I have informed the reception desk to be relevant with these 2 options. Breakfast had the best scrambled eggs we have had in France. It was supremely quiet at night, so we were very happy. But the hotel itself was superb. The room itself was ok. Not really anything special. My husband and I were on our honeymoon and we decided to spend the money to be able to stay in the old city but I honestly think we should have just saved our money and stayed outside of the city walls. We'd stay again in a heartbeat and hope things settle down so we can travel again and return soon.Within the centre of La Cite it is ideal for exploring. The check-in was handled smoothly as we were met by an employee at the upper gate who efficiently got us to a spot to park our car and then shuttled us to the hotel. This is a comfortable hotel. Our room was good, linens lovely and the bed was comfy . Very enjoyable stay with-in a beautiful City. They even managed to put up with my attempt at basic French which was no mean feat. No , then you have to walk your bags from the town into the ramparts of the old city. All complete amenities. Get there early as it quite small. We stayed 3 nights in the Rampart. Pricey hotel but it is a memorable location, convenient to visit the Cite and it was at the peak of the tourist season. It's potentially quite a hike.We stayed here in October for our wedding anniversary. Location, location, location. The hotel offers secure parking for 20 euros a day which is worth it. Lovely in the evenings when all tourists have left. Although we were only there one night, the stay was very good and we enjoyed our visit.Having not visited Carcassonne before, I wasn't quite sure what to expect when we arrived, but being dropped off by the airport transfer bus right outside the walls of the Cite and then walking up the medieval streets to find our hotel was the perfect way to start our holiday. Looking forward to the pleasure of welcoming you back to Hotel Donjon, Sincerely Adelaide Pujol - Quality Manager,Dear Guest, Thank you very much for sharing these kind words about your recent experience at HOTEL DONJON in Carcassonne. It goes without saying that we truly regret that we somehow lost sight of your little gateway! Our hotel has a restaurant and lounge, four conference rooms which will accommodate up to 100 guests, business services and a reception area with a … The location is absolutely fantastic. The shuttle bus was waiting and we just hopped in and off we went. one thing don't touch the cat in reception unless you want to be scarred !! We would sincerely like to thank you for taking the time to write these compliments on Trip Advisor! We had a quite satisfactory meal at the hotel with our group and two others in an excellent restaurant called Le Menestral a few minutes walk away. Service = not there. Room was a reasonable size, we had two twin beds, not that comfortable. A great 1 night stay!”,“The secure parking was easy to find with directions and easy to access during our stay. Convenient and not convenient, you take the rough with the smooth. Excellent value for money - very clean and superb service. We'd very happily stay here again and recommend it.We stayed at Hotel Donjon 8-11th March where we were greeted by friendly and helpful staff who kindly spoke English with us when our limited French ran out. Pleasant ambience suitable to the surroundings. Our residence there is unforgetable.Yes, you need to stay here. We were very happy. The location within the Castle walls was amazing! I would definitely recommend this hotel as it sits right in the centre of the old part of the town. The parking lot was hard to find, the first time. I recommend the hotel as a great place to explore Carcassonne. We loved our visit to the Best Western Hotel Le Donjon. The rooms are comfortable and clean with tea & coffee making facilities. It turned out the two separate parts of this hotel (Le Donjon and Les Remparts) had rooms with identical numbers; ours was 10. When he arrived he had to wait 15 minutes to get the towels and the clerk said nothing -- just handed him the towels.Fantastic hotel. Plenty of space in the rooms. Staff rude and just thought we were being difficult it seems. It is central to everything in the walled city. 2) The hotel has free parking but it is outside the city walls and it is NOT guarded overnight. We had several restaurants to choose from for all meals. One is met outside the walls by hotel narrower vehicle to get through the ancient gates and streets. The hotel is situated in the heart of the old city. Just book it !We stayed for two nights in two lovely, comfortable rooms which were well equipped and serviced during our stay. We had requested a double bed which was a twin on arrival however we were not concerned for one night. Although it was comfortable, the one thing I noticed was that there were several very nice hotels right along the walls of the city, which I really hadn't realized in my search.Didn't use any of the hotel facilities other than the room for 1 night, but the room was very comfortable, clean and well appointed, apart from being a bit short on storage space. We had an amazing time & the staff were exceptional. Hoping to have the pleasure of welcoming you back soon in the Hotel Best Western Le Donjon. The hotel bar was reasonably priced, with a nice bottle of very drinkable red costing €21. Lighting in rooms abysmal and generally no warmth and friendliness. Free WiFi is provided throughout. With views of street or the garden, the rooms are individually decorated and include a flat-screen TV. For example, on the morning of our departure, I called the front desk to ask about the check-out protocol and the lady working the desk literature hung-up on me. We have proposed you another room after your dinner at 10 Pm , that you did not accept . We stayed in the main house and the first room we were allocated overlooked the garden but was a bit small for two nights and had twin beds. The streets leading up to the hotel are cobbled and a bit steep, my 70 year old mom walks with a cane and found it very reasonable to navigate. As a hotel was quite happy with it. We’d very happily stay here again and recommend it.We stayed at Hotel Donjon 8-11th March where we were greeted by friendly and helpful staff who kindly spoke English with us when our limited French ran out. We were in a family room in the annexe 'Les Remparts' which was more than adequate, and you really could not beat the location, which easily allows you to come and go within the cite later in the evening or in early morning, when it is less busy. Just book somewhere else. The location is amazing - right in the heart of La Cite. Breakfast is super and the food overall is very good! The courtyard was great for gathering and having a glass of wine! This is a hotel which is simply cashing in on its location but not giving the expected standard. We were in here for the Festival de Carcassonne in July. Double-check the maximum capacity for the room you selected. All cribs and extra beds are subject to availability. When booking more than 5 rooms, different policies and additional supplements may apply.Best Western Le Donjon accepts these cards and reserves the right to temporarily hold an amount prior to arrival. Please inform Best Western Le Donjon of your expected arrival time in advance.
